About this deal

Cozy Case Files Volume 12 (By: Carolyn Haines,Donna Andrews,Hannah Dennison,Cate Conte,Kylie Logan,Leonard Goldberg,Allison Montclair,Sheila Connolly,Ellie Alexander,Ashley Weaver,S.C. Perkins,Eve Calder,Jess Dylan,Mindy Quigley,Meri Allen) The series stars Delilah Metcalfe, who is a young woman that makes a living while running a dating agency. She works with Samson O’Brien, who is a private detective that runs Dales Detective Agency and ends up becoming his partner.

I know it's counter-cultural and a very small point, but would a gang of pensioners really be so modern about two people going to bed together? In their day people probably believed in commitment first. Anyone who likes cosy mysteries, a rural English setting, a dash of romance, and vivid engaging writing by an author who clearly loves all of those things, will love this series. It will be interesting to see the TV series if/when that happens, but make sure you read the books first if you can. I must say that I hadn't even realised this book was out until I saw it on the shelves in W H Smith! Full of charm, wit and characters that will capture your heart, the series begins with Date With Death. Have you read them all?In the eighth novel in the Dales Detective series, Date with Evil , Samson and Delilah are about to discover that all of their new cases may be connected to a network of evil that seems to be surrounding Bruncliffe. Will they solve them all before the danger comes directly to their door?

Cozy Case Files Volume 5 (By: Carolyn Haines,Donna Andrews,Carola Dunn,Sheila Connolly,Ellie Alexander,Susan C. Shea,Judith Flanders,Mindy Quigley,Auralee Wallace) There is a warmth and friendship between the characters that adds to the reading experience. Everyone is ready to help in their own way and it seems very natural. The obvious exception is the perpetrator, who is, in melodramatic fashion, particularly evil and sociopathic. The reader knows who it is as the novel is told from various points of view, but they don’t know the lengths he will go to or why. I designated it as a semi-cosy as it has darker themes than I expect from the usual gentle cosy. As this was my first experience of this series I have no idea if they are all as dark. Little do the detective duo know that several of their cases are about to collide when identifying the whereabouts of the missing man becomes something far more sinister. To make the read more interesting the author has a fine line in humour and badinage. The dialogue is funny, notably on the subject of the fledgling romance between Delilah and Samson, where everyone has an opinion and isn’t afraid to voice it, to much squirming and embarrassment from the recipients. It’s a small town so nothing is secret and everything is fair game for comment, except, obviously, for the identity of the person behind this latest mayhem. I say latest because much reference is made to previous mayhem, which I assume was covered in earlier novels. This works as a stand-alone but I think familiarity with past events would have added to my enjoyment.
