Eternals is as impressively put together as you would expect a Marvel blockbuster to be, in terms of seamlessly blending CG spectacle with real-world characters and environments, but it's also not a traditionally stylised entry, adopting a much more natural landscape that is also much more. Granted, not everyone is going to like every movie, but many of the reviews I've read seem purposely negative for the sake of being negative. Some decent bonus features are worth picking through, but this really isn’t a great movie and with a middling A/V presentation it’s hard to recommend. For obvious reasons, the last four months have been packed with films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Eternals incudes several extras, including an audio commentary track, two featurettes, a gag reel, and deleted scenes. Zhao's influence has clearly informed the choice of natural environments, beachfronts, jungles and so forth, with even the signature costumes the lead characters wear often feeling almost like an organic extension of Ancient Greek and Egyptian robes, obviously imbued by futuristic notes. When entire characters are forgotten for over half the film or outright die and you don’t have any kind of emotional resonance enough to care - you have a big problem with your movie. Black levels are overall even and approaching that nice inky tone we want to see, but a sequence midway through in South Dakota was a tad on the gray side, but not bad. But it's dull as hell, tediously languid, indulgent and desperately redundant, and may well be the first MCU movie that fans won't ever want to revisit, and would prefer to forget, with threats of a sequel the last thing anybody is wanting to hear.

At the moment, it remains an utterly redundant entry in the series, and many will hope it stays that way, despite all manner of stingers and closing twists to hint that there's more to tell. But that actually worked out out great because, I think the movie movie was way better than how I assumed it would be.

But that all changed with 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, and by the time Endgame rolled around, Marvel could do no wrong - its fanbase trusting of almost anything and everything it they could come up with. While the 2160p disc transfer provides much better finely-tuned details, and for some big sequences a more nuanced color palette, this disc doesn’t have to contend with a frustratingly dark HDR10 grade. This film should have been a limited series event on Disney+, not a film that has to struggle to cram in so much material inside a set runtime. Included are Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as cosmic-powered Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, an eternally young old soul, and Brian Tyree Henry as intelligent inventor Phastos.For the week that ended on February 26th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Eternals remained on top of both both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts.
